'Tudors' Star Cast as New Superman

British born actor Henry Cavill has been cast as the new Superman. Cavill’s latest work is playing Charles Brandon in HBO’s The Tudors. Superman is expected to hit theaters in December 2012.

Cavill discussed the significance of following in the late Christopher Reeve’s footsteps to ABC News stating, “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen.” Even after losing a chance at the role back in 2006, Cavill never lost his passion to play the role of Superman.

Dateline reported why Cavill was perfect for the role, “He’s got an amazing quality. He doesn’t look too much like Reeve and Routh but he’s big and strong and he has a very modern feel to him [...] We’re really going to try and make Superman as contemporary as possible,” the executive said. It’s certain to say fans are looking forwards to this “contemporary” spin on the Man of Steel.
