'The Roommate' Does Well at the Box Office Despite Reviews
The Roommate, a PG-13 horror about a creepy college girl who stalks her roommate, is doing quite well, despite lack luster reviews.
Entertainment Weekly gave the movie a solid D, calling the movie a soulless rehash of the 1992 Single White Female. Their main complaint was a lack of creativity with both the writers and actors. Ultimately, they claimed The Roommate had “few scares and minimal characterization,” and they were unimpressed with actresses Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights) and Leighton Meester (Gossip Girls).
None of this, however, seemed to dissuade moviegoers as The Roommate grossed an estimated $6.4 million on Friday, which goes a long way to covering the $8 million dollar budget of the film. The numbers far outstretched the competition, with Sanctum being the next most viewed movie only grossing $3.6 million.
