Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth fame has written the text for a grunge-themed photo book, appropriately entitled “Grunge,” reports Pitchfork.
Moore, who is commonly associated with the no-wave scene of the early 80’s, did play a pivotal role in the expansion of grunge beyond the Washington state boarders. In 1990, Moore was instrumental in getting Nirvana signed to Geffen.
The photographs included in the book, which is due to hit stores Oct. 15, were all taken by Sub Pop photographer Michael Lavine, who is often credited with creating the Seattle label’s angst-filled aesthetic.
The book will include photos of renowned grunge bands Nirvana, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, and Beat Happening in addition to photographs of the young fan-base this culturally relevant music had.
