Andrew McMahon, former front man for alt-punk band Jack’s Mannequin, is joining the fight against cancer, reports Alternative Press.
McMahon was diagnosed with leukemia in 2005 at the age of 22, three months before Jack’s Mannequin’s debut album, Everything in Transit. Since the cancer was diagnosed in the earlier stages, there was hope for a full recover. McMahon received support from fans and alternative music sites across the country.
AbsolutePunk.net sold orange wrist bands reading “I Will Fight,” a line from a Something Corporate song, a band McMahon was the lead singer of before their demise.
At the beginning of December, McMahon will join other celebrity ambassadors by joining Stand Up to Cancer. The organization provides funds for cancer research, and has raised over $100 million for their cause.
Other celebrity ambassadors include Kirsten Dunst, Mandy Moore, and Sharon Osbourne.
McMahon shot a documentary called Dear Jack, chronicling his battle with cancer, that will be released November 3 by Sire Records.
