Breaking news is being reported by The Associated Press that former heavyweight boxing champion of the world Mike Tyson was involved in a physical scuffle with an unidentified photographer at the Los Angeles International Airport earlier today. Tyson was arrested at the scene on charges of battery for allegedly assaulting the photographer.

Kevin Lowe, a sergeant for the Los Angeles Police Department, gave vague details about the incident and mentioned that Tyson was detained but it was unknown at the time as to whether or not he was still at the Los Angeles International Airport.

Tyson engaged in a physical altercation with an unidentified photographer at LAX in Terminal 7, according to Los Angeles International Airport police spokesman Sergeant Jim Holcomb. According to The New York Daily News, Tyson claims the member of the paparazzi initiated physical contact by shoving the former heavyweight boxer before Tyson retaliated by punching him in the face.

The controversial former world champion has a checkered history with the law, most notably due to a conviction for the rape of then-18-year-old Desiree Washington back in 1992. Tyson received a six year prison sentence for the felony rape conviction. Tyson was released from jail after serving just three years of his six-year sentence as a result of good behavior.
