The Albertan minister of culture announced that the province will get its own film studio, CanWest reports. The studio is set to be built on the site of the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.
The announcement was made during a reception for the Gemini Awards, the Canadian version of the Emmys. The studio is estimated to cost the province $26 million, built on four hectares of land purchased from WinSport Canada. The Olympic Park, on the outskirts of Calgary, is the site where the Jamaican bobsled team depicted in the film Cool Runnings competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics.
Early plans for the studio consist of a 30,000 square foot sound stage and a 45,000 “digital hub,” that features office space and green rooms.
