Viacom, which includes MTV and VH1, has acquired the rights to show This is It on television, Rolling Stone reports.
The film, which chronicles Michael Jackson’s final days of rehearsing, will begin to air on television starting in 2011. MTV also said that it will help Sony Pictures promote the release of This is It on DVD in early 2010. MTV president Van Toffler said that because Jackson has such an impact on MTV and music in general, they would be happy to help “give fans a chance to see his final performance.”
Other stations that will air the documentary include BET, VH1 Classic, Palladia, and all music related television channels owned by Viacom.
This is It has already made over $200 million worldwide though its theatrical release.
