Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford has a theory as to why the band’s leadsinger, Steven Tyler, has been acting so erratically. Drug use.
“You have to be suspicious that this is something that is probably going on with him.” Whitford told Rock Radio. "I think that that's got to be a part of this irrational behavior."
Since Tyler fell from the stage at a concert in South Dakota in August, Aerosmith has been having some serious personnel issues.
First, Tyler seemed to suggest that he was going to leave the band and focus on what he called “Brand Tyler,” forcing guitarist Joe Perry to subsequently announce that Aerosmith was looking for a new singer.
That is until Tyler shows up at a Perry solo gig, performed “Walk This Way,” and announced to the crowd he wasn’t leaving Aerosmith.
Then, in yet another turn of contradiction, Perry said the band’s problems were far from over and Tyler still wanted to take a couple years off to focus on a solo career.
According to Spin, both Perry and Whitford have confirmed the band’s wish to continue touring with or without Tyler.
"We all know that there's really no way to replace Steven, but we want to continue touring together," Whitford said. "We even have a 40-year anniversary coming up and it's a milestone. We want to be able to celebrate it together and there's millions of fans out there that are dedicated to us."
