The Senate’s debate on the health care bill is set for this Monday; however the 60 votes needed from the majority Democrats is in jeopardy, as some Democrats are saying that they will vote on it with the exception of the ban on abortion coverage, while others say they will vote yes on it unless the federal plan to compete with private insurers is removed, according to Associated Press.
“Generation after generation has called on us to fix this broken system,” Majority Leader Harry Reid said, at a Capitol Hill rally. He added, “We’re now closer than ever to getting it done.”
The health care bill would prohibit private insurance companies from denying health care or charging higher premiums for those individuals in critical health.
Paul Ginsburg, president of the Center for Studying Health System Change said, “A large portion of the debate will be spent on issues that aren’t important to the workability of health reform.”
Senator Reid would like to finish the debate by Christmas Day, according to Associated Press.
