Rwanda was entered as a Commonwealth, at the Heads of Government meeting with Trinidad and Tobago, reported from a group member, on Sunday, according to BBC News.
Rwanda is the 54th member of the Commonwealth. It is the first country to be admitted without a British colonial linkage, but a former colony of Germany.
“My government sees this accession as recognition of the tremendous progress this country has made in the last 15 years,” Louise Mushikiwabo, information Minister quoted on the Rwandan daily New Times online. She added, “Rwandan’s are ready to seize economic, political, cultural, and other opportunities offered by the Commonwealth network.”
The Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) wrote a report, encouraging that Rwanda stand tall in fighting for more political free will.
The report said, ‘CHRI acknowledges that Rwanda has what appears to be a well-deserved reputation for government efficiency and for being less corrupt- but its claims about the lack of corruption appear hollow when considering its complicity in the illicit economy of the region, according to BBC News.
