Damon Albarn names new Gorillaz album

The new album to be released by the cartoon hip/hop and indie band, Gorillaz, will be named “Plastic Beach,” reports NME.

Speaking to English journalist Paul Morley, Albarn said that the new album is near completion as well as other projects he's been working on unrelated to Gorillaz.

“This whole Gorillaz album, ‘Plastic Beach,’ which is nearly finished now, started off as‘'Carousel,’” said Albarn. [It's] sort of about the mythical aspects of Britain. “Obviously, because it's Gorillaz, we've moved it to a different place, but it still maintains a lot of that melancholy.”

The new album, which Albarn called “the most pop record” he's ever made, will feature the Syrian National Orchestra, as well as performers Mos Def and De la Soul.

In other news, Albarn is working on another album with Tony Allen and bassist Flea, which he claims is near completion. He will also be working with graphic novelist Alan Moore on an opera for the Royal Opera House.
