Anne Trenning Provides Soundtrack For A Better World

Advert
ANNE TRENNING
WATCHING FOR RAIN
SHADETREE RECORDS

Every now and then you hear a pianist who obviously knows what they are doing. Anne Trenning is like that. No random doodling here. You get the feeling she knows exactly where is she going with every piece she plays on her carefully-arranged third album, WATCHING FOR RAIN.

Maybe it is her classical training, the fact that still teaches top-student piano-performance, or that she learned nearly every church piece in the old family hymnal when she was growing up. But this lady has a strongly-developed sense of melody flow.

Her last album, ALL ONE WORLD, by the way, was named by NEW AGE REPORTER as one of the Top 5 acoustic piano albums of the year. Her instrumental music receives extensive airplay internationally.

The tunes are split between original material and covers. A couple of pieces are all or primarily acoustic piano, but on most of the 15 cuts her piano is trading the spotlight with violin, flute or woodwinds. The prettiest pieces are original compositions: “You and Me,” the upbeat mid-tempo piece “Eden Hall” (with a very slow 20-second coda), and the gentle “Carolina Moon” with its deep chords ending (Trenning lives in North Carolina, by the way).

This CD will be enjoyed by lovers of new age music, but it does not fall distinctly into the new age of George Winston, David Lanz or Suzanne Ciani. It is more varied and has more personality than those traditionalists. This recording is stunning in its breadth – a little English renaissance classical on moment, a hint of Celtic the next, followed by music that would not seem out-of-place in a traditional church service, and rounded off with a bit of Americana nu-folk or alt-country. The diversity spices it up!

The CD can be found at her website (www.annetrenning.com) and numerous online sites that sell CDs or downloads.
