On his fifteenth studio album, former Beatle Ringo Starr proves that he’s still a rock star. It has its up and downs, but, thankfully, the downs aren’t as frequent as the ups.
The album, Y Not, opens with the song “Fill in the Blank,” full of guitars and Starr’s Liverpool voice.

It ends with “Who’s Your Daddy,” a song that has guest-star Joss Stone lamenting over a man while Starr asks, “who’s your daddy?” Their two singers go great together, but it’s hard to get over Ringo Starr asking a young 20-something Joss Stone who her daddy is.
“Peace Dream,” features Starr’s fellow ex-Beatle, Paul McCartney, on bass. “Just like John Lennon said, from Amsterdam, in his bed, one day the world will wake up to see the reality,” he sings, referring to Lennon’s famous “bed-in,” where he and wife Yoko Ono promoted peace from a hotel bed.

“Walk With You,” is a definite highlight, and probably the best song on the album. Starr and McCartney team up again, this time with McCartney sharing vocals. Their voices blend together over the beautifully written song. The song is about friendship, and the fact that Starr is singing it with his former band mate makes the song so much more powerful.

Die-hard Ringo Starr fans will rejoice in the fact that he’s still got it, and Beatles fans will tear up when they hear him sing about John Lennon or with Paul McCartney. As long as Ringo Starr is still making music, there is no doubt that he will continue to make music worth listening to
