Lady Gaga is a woman of her time. Hailing from New York, this young lady (real name Stefani Germanotta) worked in the music business for years, writing for pop acts like Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears, before she debuted her own pop project.

After a rough start, she hit the big time with her 2008 hit “Poker Face,” and since then has maintained public attention and a high-profile with her flamboyant manner and catchy hits, releasing the Album “The Fame” in 2008, and , “The Fame Monster” in 2009.

Growing up during the pop boom of the nineties, Lady Gaga received all of the lessons from stars of the 1980’s and 90’s. With flamboyant, provocative dresses, she takes a page from the books of both Madonna, and also, in a more subtle manner, Grace Jones.

By creating the “Lady Gaga” persona, Stefani Germanotta essentially created an image to market, brilliantly learning the lessons of Aguilera’s and Spears’ of the nineties. Part of her flamboyancy also stems from a clear draw from 80’s hair metal. Her song, “Boys, Boys, Boys,” would not exist without Motley Cru’s “Girls, Girls, Girls.”

Her live shows have also garnered attention, and definitely meet the criteria for “Spectacle.” The shows contain scene changes, a narrative, multiple costume changes, and even acting! Despite being a pop act, however, the show leans towards the dark, even the macabre.

A video shows a women vomiting blue liquid, Gaga eating a raw piece of meat dripping blood. The darkened stage is illuminated with neon signs with ominous messages. And yet even then, she brings a positive message of self-acceptance.
